Moving Mass (Liftersinger) is an all female cast consisting of three movers, a reader, a singer and a lifter. The lifter and singer have a tense physical and metaphorical relationship animated by the lifter’s pantomime and the singer’s fluctuating, guttural accompaniment. Each performing body participates in showing all of her, any her, support, whether that strength is emotional, intellectual, collective, or the physical use of muscles. The female mind, body and strength are at once eternalized and ordinary in a fierce embrace and one final movement. At times, awkward to watch, challenging to understand, yet powerful, Moving Mass reflects on what it means to move mass and be a mass that is moved.
